Start with the work you want to remove
PitStop Pro is widely known for PDF preflight and editing inside Adobe Acrobat. An alternative does not need to reproduce every command to be useful. A shop seeking automated intake, READY/REVIEW sorting and batch routing is evaluating a different workflow from an operator who edits individual objects in Acrobat.
List today’s repeated steps: opening files, selecting a profile, checking bleed, reading reports, renaming, moving and replying to customers. The chosen system should shorten that journey without hiding production decisions.
Technical criteria to compare
The terms preflight and auto-fix cover very different capabilities. Ask which properties are genuinely inspected, how uncertainty is represented and which fixes are guaranteed deterministic. Include encrypted, signed, truncated, large and resource-heavy PDFs in the evaluation.

Review document processing, licensing, updates and diagnostics separately. A product can keep PDFs local while using the Internet only for licensing; that boundary should be documented clearly.

Build a corpus containing valid PDFs, known defects and difficult files. Measure time to decision, false positives, acceptable corrections, exceptions correctly kept in review and report quality.
The goal is not to make every file green. A trustworthy system sometimes refuses to conclude and explains why. Also compare restart recovery, batch throughput and preservation of originals.
